The DairyCo Mastitis Control Plan is now in place on 375 farms across the UK – ahead of target for the three-year project, which began in 2009.

The original aim was to implement the DairyCo Mastitis Control Plan on 750 herds over the three years that the project is running. However, half of that number has been implemented in the first year.

There are now 168 vets and consultants across the country trained to implement the plan, with more than 60 registering interest in future courses.

Andrew Bradley, who works with DairyCo to run the training courses, is delighted with the results. He said: “It is great to see the mastitis control plan being put into action on so many farms so quickly. We are now also in the process of requesting and receiving follow-up data from herds where the plan has been in place for 12 months. This will allow us to measure the success of the plan in its existing format and method of delivery.”

The next training courses will be held in October and November. For more information, contact Kate Cross, DairyCo product manager, on 02476 478686 or email kate.cross@dairyco.org.uk
