Dog owners in Wales were yesterday reminded they only had 50 days left to have their dogs microchipped in compliance with new regulations.
Rebecca Evans, the Welsh Government’s deputy minister for farming and food, told owners all dogs over eight weeks old need to be microchipped and their owners’ details registered on a database by 6 April.
Creating a link
Ms Evans said: “The ability to trace all dogs back to their owners should encourage more responsible ownership and breeding, and help in the control of dangerous and nuisance dogs by creating a link between a dog and its owner.
“Lost, stolen and injured dogs are much more likely to be reunited with their owners if they have been microchipped and registered on one of the authorised databases.”
Owners wishing to obtain more information about microchipping are urged to contact their vet or a suitably trained pet care specialist.
