The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons has announced the appointment of Nick Stace to the position of chief executive and secretary.
Mr Stace – who currently resides in Australia – will take up his post on September 3, 2012. The announcement was made at an RCVS Council meeting held yesterday (June 7, 2012).
Mr Stace is leaving his current position as chief executive officer at CHOICE – Australia’s equivalent of consumer group Which? – in order to join the RCVS. A long-standing consumer champion, Mr Stace also held the post of deputy CEO at Which?, was a director at Consumers International and was former Prime Minister Gordon Brown‘s director of strategic communications.
The position of chief executive is a new one, replacing the previous role of registrar held by Jane Hern, who stepped down at the end of last year.
Mr Stace said of his appointment: “It is an enormous privilege to be leading an organisation that seeks to ensure Britain has the best vets in the world. The college has a special place in the lives of every vet in the country, and it also has a responsibility to animals and consumers to set high standards and ensure they are met.
“I look forward to helping the college continue to improve veterinary standards across the country and to lead the college through its next stage of development.”
RCVS president Jerry Davies said: “I am delighted that Nick Stace will be joining the college. With his impressive track record, I believe that we have a chief executive who will lead the college into a new phase of modernisation and development.”
