Veterinary receptionist Heather Hobin might admit to receiving a warmer welcome than she was expecting when she was employed by Companion Care Vets in Harlow.

Heather Hobin receives flowers and a cake from Chris Ventner (Vet, Companion Care Vets Harlow).Despite the company’s dedication to its staff, not all new employees of Companion Care Vets receive a celebratory cake and flowers as part of their induction – it was, in fact, a celebration of the 1,000th person to be employed by the nationwide veterinary group.

Heather said: “I was thrilled to be offered the job at the surgery and when I found out I was lucky number 1,000 I felt very honoured.”

Managing director Jane Balmain said: “We are one of the largest employers of veterinary professionals and support staff in the UK and we have seen significant growth in the last three years, we have in fact doubled in size.

“There are now 95 surgeries across England, Scotland and Wales with the first surgery soon to be opening in Northern Ireland. We are on track to double in size again by 2015 and it is our wonderful and dedicated team that are so integral to this growth.”

Companion Care Vets was named as one of The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For in March 2012, becoming the first veterinary service provider to be awarded this accolade.

Jane added: “Our continued growth is such that we offer a whole host of career opportunities from joint venture partnerships to employed vets, veterinary nurses and support staff. To reach 1,000 team members is another super milestone for the company and we welcome Heather wholeheartedly into our family.”
