Vétoquinol UK Limited has launched Ceftiocyl in a ready-to-use formulation containing 50mg/ml ceftiofur for use in cattle and pigs.

Vétoquinol has launched Ceftiocyl in a ready-to-use formulationIn cattle, Ceftiocyl can be used for the treatment of respiratory disease, acute interdigital necrobacillosis and acute post-partum metritis. In pigs, Ceftiocyl is licensed for the treatment of respiratory disease. Ceftiocyl has the added benefit of traceability stickers which are attached to each vial making it easier and quicker to record and monitor on-farm usage.

Ceftiofur is very well regarded especially in the dairy sector primarily due to its high efficacy and nil milk withhold. Ceftiocyl is a cost-effective antibiotic treatment for metritis and foot rot in an industry where it is estimated an initial case of lameness costs around £323.471 (Willshire, J.A. & Bell, N, J. (2009) An economic review of cattle lameness).

Susan Mitchell, large animal product manager at Vétoquinol UK Ltd said: “We are delighted to be expanding our large animal anti infective range offering. Marbocyl 10% has been used for acute mastitis in the dairy sector for many years, the addition of Ceftiocyl to our portfolio enables us to provide a cost-effective treatment for both metritis and lameness.”
