A domestic shorthaired cat from Stafford has shed a third of its bodyweight to be crowed Royal Canin’s 2014 Weigh-in Club winner.
Black cat Max lost 2.8kg with help from his owner Rachel Knock and Vets4Pets Stafford VN Katie Field. Both were presented with a £500 gift voucher and the practice received £1,000 of equipment vouchers.
Royal Canin veterinary scientific support manager Ian Williams said: “We’re seeing more obese pets every year, which is why it’s important owners and their vets recognise the signs of obesity and work together to manage weight fluctuations.
“By working out a diet plan with a veterinary professional, owners will be able to control their pets’ food intake and, in time, help them to lose unnecessary weight.”
The competition, now in its third year, is open to all practices across the country running weight loss clinics and using Royal Canin products as part of their regimes. The 2013 competition saw more than 50 pet entrants from around the country.
Twelve finalists were chosen to appear on a special Weigh-in Club calendar, with the animals losing a combined weight of 77kg.
