British Veterinary Association hosts careers fair at show to help members, with “stimulating” talks and one-to-one careers and financial planning sessions.
Vets looking for inspiration to invigorate their careers can look to the British Veterinary Association (BVA) Careers Fair at London Vet Show (LVS) to deliver stimulating talks, as well as free one-to-one careers and financial planning sessions.
Following its popularity last year, and incorporating delegate feedback, the BVA Careers Fair returns to LVS at London Olympia on November 21 and 22 (2013) with three main themes:
- starting your career
- career options
- taking the next step in your career
The BVA said all elements of the fair are open exclusively to association members and it expects the one-to-one sessions to be snapped up quickly. These sessions are provided by the BVA Careers Service and sponsored by recruitment agency RIG Vets. The financial one-to-ones, meanwhile, are provided by BVA’s affiliate partners Lloyd and Whyte. Booking will open in mid-September.
Highlights from the careers lectures include:
- How to get the job everyone wants
- What should and shouldn’t be in my contract?
- Top 10 tips to avoid being sued!
- How to squeeze 30 hours into one day
- Entering a joint venture partnership
Other topics include getting support from your practice, finance, insurance and pensions, how to talk to clients, work/life balance, specialisation, working overseas, and career changes.
BVA president Peter Jones said: “Our commitment to support BVA members in shaping their professional futures continues with advice around veterinary careers and career development at the BVA Careers Fair and one-to-one sessions which wouldn’t be possible without the support of our sponsors and partners. I’d really recommend our careers fair lectures at the show and look forward to meeting delegates at our stand (S42).”
BVA members get access to the full BVA offering, as well as the usual LVS programme, for 15% less than the lowest advertised price. To book, members need their membership number and to quote the offer code “BVA11”.
Non-members can sign up to BVA during the show to attend. However, “becoming a BVA member before the event saves time on the day”, said the association. To join or for more information, visit the BVA website.
