Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is urgently appealing for donations of bedding for its sickest residents after a fire left its laundry room out of order.
Just after 8:00am this morning a tumble dryer in the charity’s clinic laundry caught fire. All staff and animals were safely evacuated, but the laundry room is now out of bounds due to smoke damage.
The clinic normally washes 20 loads a day in its industrial sized washing machine. It would take an average British family eight weeks to get through an equivalent amount of washing.
As the washing machine is normally on from 8am until 5pm every day, the laundry is already piling up. Unfortunately the home’s main laundry is working at full capacity, and is unable to cope with the extra washes from the clinic.
Battersea is now appealing to kind-hearted supporters to donate pet bedding that can be used by the clinic animals. Any bedding and blankets would be very gratefully received. Donations do not have to be new, but due to the laundry challenges, Battersea would ask that all donations are clean. Unfortunately, duvets and towels cannot be used.
Clinic manager Suzanne Abrahams explains: “In the clinic we care for dogs and cats with all sorts of medical conditions, such as bite wounds, skin problems, malnutrition and broken bones. We use lots of bedding to keep them all comfortable and warm, so any donations would be a great help. As long as it is already clean we can put it to use straight away.”
Anyone wishing to donate bedding can bring it to the home at any time, at 4 Battersea Park Road, London, SW8 4AA, where it will be very gratefully received. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with any queries.
The home is trying to get its clinic laundry room working as soon as possible, but any donations will be an immense help.
