Petlog has been celebrating after it announced more than 90,000 pets’ records were checked during National Microchipping Month in June.

microchipCelia Walsom, chief executive of Petlog, which is managed by The Kennel Club, said: “We are delighted that more than 90,000 contact details were checked. This is great news, as it shows we are getting through to people that having their pet microchipped is not enough – they also need to keep their contact details up to date.

“This figure demonstrates that people are not just listening, but actively taking action. Although it is good news that so many people have now ensured their pet has a form of permanent identification and the correct details on the database, we are concerned that too many people are forgetting to update the moment they change their details.

“Unfortunately, we know too well that people have to be reminded to update their details, which is why we run initiatives such as National Microchipping Month. However, this only comes round once a year and that could be too late for some pets.”

In a bid increase the number of pets getting their details updated, Petlog has launched Petlog Premium. “It costs just £10 to upgrade to Petlog Premium online – and can be done very simply once the initial registration is confirmed,” added Celia.

National Microchip Month was a success“From then on every change is free and each owner can create a secure log-in and account where they can easily manage all of their contact information as well as include holiday information and emergency contact details.”

As well as a secure account, Petlog Premium is said to also offer a lost pet alert to registered authorities within a 30-mile radius. Lost pets will also get their details published on Petlog’s lost page while a new application called My Dog UK allows users to alert authorities of a missing dog from their mobile phone.
