As it launches its annual charity awards Petplan has announced a £4 million milestone in support of Dogs Trust, which has helped the charity find new homes for thousands of stray and abandoned dogs over the last 10 years.

The £4 million landmark is the result of rehomers taking out a full insurance policy with Petplan and Petplan giving 10% from each policy premium to the Dog’s Trust, plus a further 10% each time the dog owner renews their policy.

Over the past decade, Petplan has helped Dogs Trust to:
  • provide 167,000+ dogs with medical care
  • rehome 145, 413 dogs
  • neuter 472,000 dogs
  • microchip 521,000 dogs
Ingrid Wakefield, head of marketing at Petplan, said: “We are proud to make a difference by supporting the fantastic work of charities like Dogs Trust which play an invaluable role in ensuring the welfare of dogs in the UK.”

Now, Petplan is calling for the public to nominate unsung animal welfare heroes and charities in the annual Animal Charity Awards. Launched in 2013 in partnership with the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH), these awards are a chance for the public to recognise animal charities and organisations across the UK and Ireland that go the extra mile to help rescue and rehome animals in need.

Ingrid said: “The Petplan and ADCH Animal Charity Awards are another mark of our commitment to charities and not-for-profit organisations. Last year we received more than 5,500 nominations from adopters, charity staff and volunteers. We would love to showcase even more this year, so if you have encountered true commitment to the improvement of animal welfare, nominate today and recognise an unsung animal hero.”
  • To nominate, visit and tell Petplan and the ADCH the special and inspirational story behind your nomination.
  • The awards will take place at the Bournemouth International Centre on April 22, 2015.
