Chanticleer delves into the world of tech, and its usage in – and potential implications for – the veterinary profession in the latest column for Veterinary Times.
Chanticleer likens the profession to a swan, and says correspondence in veterinary journals suggests real concerns exist about the nature of the workload, the variance in standards of training and working conditions.
“Today’s graduates have the disadvantage of having to fit into the matrix we created within what largely remains as a hierarchical profession. Tomorrow’s graduates will want to change things in ways millennials are more likely to accept.”
“I wonder if any vet, anywhere, has avoided the feeling something may have gone wrong somewhere in our training... and it may just be a matter of time before they find out?”
Chanticleer, finding himself far from home but far from the middle of nowhere, recalls a trip when wifi, mobile signal and the trusty red phone box all let him down.
“Dinosaurs like me should take comfort in the realisation today’s young are far less likely to be influenced by the egos of news presenters, because they seek information from a far wider range of digital sources.”
