During the day the delegates will be introduced to the behavioural, nutritional and environmental needs of goats across all sectors including pet, fibre, meat, pedigree and commercial dairy goats. The speakers will then cover the common infectious diseases affecting goats in the UK, including diagnosis, treatment and control. Other topics covered will also include disbudding, foot care, and some common surgical procedures.
- An understanding of the behavioural traits that can influence goat health and welfare.
- Recognition of the common infectious and endemic diseases affecting goats in the UK and how to manage them.
- Goat sub-sector specific issues (e.g. advice relevant to show herds, to goats in petting areas, to goats kept in large 24/7 housed systems.
- The best approach to some common management and surgical procedures. Developing health plans for goats.
