The Diabetic Cat
Cats are notorious for not reading the text books! Feline diabetes mellitus is one of those diseases where cats can prove a little more difficult than dogs to manage. This course will look at diabetes mellitus in the cat, starting with diagnosis through to stabilisation and long term monitoring.
The emergency situation of how to treat cats with diabetic ketoacidosis will also be covered. The nurse plays a vital role in the stabilisation of diabetic cats and so different treatments will be discussed as well as how to perform a blood glucose curve, the use of continuous blood glucose monitors and the role of dietary therapy.
