About this course
Geriatric patients, our beloved golden oldies, have very special and individual needs and nursing requirements that must be taken into consideration. The challenges of older age affect body composition, the ability to fight disease and the high incidence of concurrent diseases.
On this course you will take a look at new tricks for old dogs (& cats!), including assessment techniques and nutritional requirements of the older patient, as well as considerations for anaesthesia. As veterinary nurses, we have the ability to make huge improvements in the lives of elderly animals through owner education, whether than be during geriatric clinics or on an individual basis at opportunist moments. Find out how you can really make a difference to the lives of many of the animals you come into contact with.
You will take a look at cancer, sarcopenia, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, feeding tube techniques and much more!
Delegates are encouraged to bring along information on any of their own cases that they wish to discuss!
