There is no doubt that working in veterinary practice can be extremely stressful and all-consuming – but there are also great rewards and personal fulfilment in this field. This full day course for all veterinary staff will explore methods of minimising stress and establishing a work-life balance. The morning sessions will discuss the differences between pressure and stress and discuss methods of managing the pressures of work and improving personal wellbeing. The afternoon sessions will take these methods into practice and show how we can apply them specifically to our daily roles in the veterinary workplace.

Specific areas to be covered.
• Define stress and its causes, and how it affects your health and performance
• Understand the difference between pressure, stress, burnout and compassion fatigue
• DISC behavioural profiling to improve effective communication
• Define work-life balance and what it means to you
• Introduction to the “wheel of life” – highlight what is important in your life and career
• What is meant by personal effectiveness and how to improve your own
• Practical techniques to prevent and manage stress in practice including:
– Methods of improving personal wellbeing
– Methods of avoiding stress in practice
– How to make effective decisions and be assertive
– How to delegate tasks and ensure they are done correctly
– How to talk to difficult team members
– Ways to enhance stress-free performance at work
– How to get the best from your team
