General surgery refresher module: suturing and neutering (dogs, cats and rabbits)
Speaker: Alasdair Hotston-Moore
Fees: BSAVA Member £246.00
Non Member £369.00
The day will refresh delegates’ knowledge of small animal surgery, focussing on surgical good practice, the principles of general surgery and the techniques of suturing (including choice of materials) and neutering.
The principles of surgery will be reviewed, with clinical examples to illustrate the benefits of following good practice, to allow participants to benefit from their application at once.
Suturing will include a review of currently used materials and provide an essential guide to suture material choice for different tissues and procedures. Samples will be available to allow delegates to understand the characteristics of different sutures and practical demonstrations (dry lab) will be shown.
Neutering is any area of concern for the many starting in or returning to small animal practice. The speaker will present surgical techniques that allow safe neutering surgery, highlighting the difficulties that may be encountered and offering choices to minimise them. Case examples to illustrate pitfalls will be shown.
