Four day modular Ultrasound
This four day course aims to provide you with the opportunity to access a structured ultrasound programme with a focus on practical scanning.
If you have a limited experience of ultrasound and would like to learn the first steps in abdominal and cardiac scanning then this course is designed for you. The course will enable you to return to practice and start using this valuable diagnostic aid.
Module One – 15 August 2016 Introduction to Ultrasound.
This module aims to provide you with an introduction to the use of ultrasonography as a veterinary diagnostic tool. Through a combination of theory and practical sessions, you will learn the techniques required to get started scanning in your practice.
Module Two – 16 August 2016 Abdominal Ultrasound.
Following on from the introductory module, this module focuses on further developing your practical skills in performing an abdominal ultrasound exam. You will learn how to recognise common abnormalities as well as variations of the normal appearance of abdominal structures through the use of case-based examples.
Module Three – 12 September 2016 Special Techniques.
In addition to examination of the thorax and abdomen, there are numerous other applications for the use of diagnostic ultrasound in veterinary practice. This module will focus on additional ways you can use ultrasound in your practice including examination of eyes, muscles, tendons and thyroid glands. Finally you will gain practical experience in ultrasound guided biopsy and needle aspiration techniques.
Module Four – 19 September 2016 Thoracic Ultrasound.
This module will teach you the techniques required to perform an ultrasound examination of the thorax. Case-based examples will be used to demonstrate normal anatomic appearance and common abnormalities of both non cardiac and cardiac structures. The practical scanning sessions are a key aspect of this module as they will enable you to become confident in performing basic echocardiography in practice
