About this course

Ophthalmic emergencies are a common challenge in small animal first opinion practice. This course aims to help the clinician perform an effective initial assessment to identify where in the eye the problem lies, if vision might be salvageable and to formulate a treatment plan. During the day we aim to cover common ophthalmic emergencies including severe corneal ulcers, traumatic uveitis, lens luxation, glaucoma, corneal foreign bodies, and proptosis of the globe.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Can the eye see? A revision of vision reflexes
  • Making the most of your ophthalmoscope
  • Approach to the red eye
  • Case based discussion of emergency cases and approach to management
