Clinical Pathology – Beyond the Blood Smear
464 Bearsden Road
About this course
This interactive practical day is intended to develop your cytology skills and will include preparation and staining techniques, microscopic examination and interpretation. Each delegate will have a microscope assigned to them for the day and a wet lab area will be provided for instruction and practice of preparation and the performance of staining techniques.
Material will be encountered from the superficial (ears and skin), to body fluids, fna smears from a variety of lesions both inflammatory and neoplastic. Tuition will be provided as and when required on microscopy technique and maintenance.
The course is designed to be practical based. Live images from the tutor microscope and images from archived cases will be projected while delegates are simultaneously involved in the examination of the same or similar material at their designated microscope.
Tutors are accessible to all delegates throughout the day and all questions are of interest.
It is recognised that delegates will enter this course from differing backgrounds and various levels of experience and competence.
Learning aim is to increase competence and confidence but also to underline the role of cytology in practice and to recognise its limits and where it feeds into and interacts with other disciplines within pathology.
