About this course

This is a one-day practical course for veterinary nurses wishing to learn/refresh a variety of equine laboratory techniques. The series of sessions will cover: basic haematology, preparing and staining blood films and the use of haematology analysers; urinalysis; faecal worm egg counting methods; preparation and examination of cytology samples (tracheal washes/BAL, peritoneal/pleural fluids, skin scrapes/plucks), basic microbiology – plating out techniques, identification of common bacterial cultures, concepts of PCR analysis.
The day will be split almost entirely into practical sessions rotating through different areas of the laboratory, with plenty of opportunity for discussion. Group sizes will be limited to five persons.
Please note, delegates will be required to bring a lab coat.
