The anaesthetic emergency situation is one that we all dread, but is an area that anyone in a position of managing or assisting with anaesthesia has a responsibility to be confident in handling.
This course will explore various anaesthetic emergency situations, and throughout the two week tutored module you will share, research and discuss real life cases, the actions to take, techniques that may be performed and the most appropriate and useful drugs and fluids thay may be given in such cases. You will also be offered the opportunity to reflect and consider different approaches should the situation arise again, in order to improve outcome.
From your studies on the course you will create a useful, practical and up-to-date protocol to share and discuss with the rest of your team, This will be a step-by-step guide that is adaptable for a variety of emergencies, including crash procedures.
You will also have opportunity to include or devise a separate protocol for maintenance of the crash box, to ensure it is fully stocked at all times.
By the end of this module, successful candidates will be able to:
- Prepare and be prepared for a variety of anaesthetic emergencies
- Recognise imminent arrest under anaesthesia
- Understand the different procedures and techniques available for use with various emergencies and the actions that are taken
